Doug is an Oregon grown woodworker who loves giving trees a second - or even third - life as furniture and art. He uses wood from sustainable sources like neighborhood trees, reclaimed building materials and sustainably managed forests in the Pacific Northwest. He uses safer finishes including shellac, milk paint and India Ink.
His influences include woodworker George Nakashima, an innovator of 20th century furniture design and a father of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Doug uses traditional joinery techniques to create beautiful, durable furniture and gifts that highlight the natural character of the wood.
Doug directs the Education Committee at the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers and loves helping new woodworkers make sawdust and shavings. He believes there is no scrap wood, just pieces that haven’t yet been turned into something beautiful!
